Are you coming to our wine dinner at Bridgeman’s restaurant on April 10th? Why not learn a little about the featured winemaker Greg Graziano and his winery Graziano Wines?
Greg Graziano is a third generation Mendocino County winemaker. In the mid 1970’s Greg attended the University of California-Davis to study viticulture and enology. When he was only twenty-two Greg became a founding partner and winemaker of Milano Winery in Hopland, California. While he was winemaker at La Crema in the mid 1980’s his wines were served at The White House and at the Moscow Summit. In 1988 Greg and his wife, Trudi, established their own winery. Under the name, Graziano Family of Wines, they now have four highly acclaimed brands: Domain Saint Gregory, Monte Volpe Vineyards, Graziano and Fattoria Enotria.
Gregory Graziano’s grandfather, Vincenzo Graziano, and his wife Angela, immigrated to America and to eventuall find their way to Mendocino County where they started growing grapes and making wine. They first planted vineyards in Mendocino County in 1918. In the late 1920’s Vincenzo had to depend on selling grapes to home winemakers on the east coast and bootlegging wine to support his family.
In the 1940’s after Prohibition and the Depression, Vincenzo, along with other local grape growers, formed the Mendocino Vineyards Winery, which eventually was sold and merged into the historically significant Cresta Blanca Winery in the town of Ukiah.
Greg’s father, Joseph Graziano, later followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in the family vineyard operation.
Like his family before him Gregory Graziano, Vincenzo’s grandson, now carries on the family winemaking tradition that his grandfather set the foundation for and that his father Joseph later handed down to Gregory. To this day he is still carrying on the family tradition.
