The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $414 million for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) through the Jimmy Fund. In 2013, the PMC gave a record gift of $39 million. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2013, the PMC generated over 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. More than 230,000 individual contributions were made to last year’s event.
Cancer has hit, and continues to hit, our family: Erik lost his dad to cancer; Jen and Cate’s dad and aunt are both cancer survivors. Like everybody, we’ve lost many other friends and family members, and have friends who are fighting cancer right now.
Instead of sitting by, we want to be a part of the cure, increasing the number of survivors…or the numbers of us who never have to know anyone with cancer at all. On August 2 and 3, Jen, Erik, and Cate will join more than 5,000 PMC cyclists to ride with the goal of raising $40 million for DFCI. They will ride 192 miles, from Sturbridge to Provincetown.
Please join us on July 17 from 6-8 PM at Local Vines and Gourmet Wine Shop for a special night of wine tasting and fundraising. We’ll have lots of great wines to taste, plus a raffle with some great items – a painting from a local artist and cancer survivor, beautiful sea glass jewelry, and more! Raffle tickets are $10 each, 3 for $25, 10 for $50, and 25 for $100.
